Love Lula Beauty Box March 2018

Hello Lovelies,

Welcome back! And welcome, if you are new here 💕💕💕

Green Life In Dublin
Love Lula Beauty Box March 2019

How are all of you? I hope you are well? March wasn't the best month for me, with too many doctors appointments, and don't get me started on snow storms in spring! Mother Nature is definitely confused, and it was funny (not) to see how a bit of snow stops the entire countries who aren't used to it. I am still mentally scarred from not being able to buy food or medicine when I needed it (everything around me was closed for a week) and I already told my hubby I will be stocking ALL of my natural medicine cabinet before next winter comes, well before we need it. (normally we get bits and pieces when the need arises) It was also not fun to have 5*C in the living room with TWO heaters on full blast - we were camping in the bedrooms. Beast from the East for sure. I was also heartbroken to see not one but two 50-80 old trees broken.

Err, sorry for getting sidetracked :) My mind is too busy most of the time. Like having 28678 tabs open at all times.

You are here to see what's in this month's Love Lula box, so let's get started, shall we?

Having zero patience, I peeked at Love Lula Natural Beauty Club's spoiler alert post as soon as I saw it, and my heart jumped for joy at seeing some of the content photos posted there. I have been wanting one of the products ever since they launched in Love Lula, and all the others seem pretty exciting too. This box total is not an impressive as some of the previous ones we had value wise, but I like it a lot, because it looks like I will be able to actually use all of the things in it. No Urban Veda or Madara this time, the brands are all new to me, except for Sukin and Laidbare. Overall, I think Love Lula done well this month! Let's jump into the individual products:

Elsa's Natural Deodorant

This is the most exciting thing for me, as I have been wanting to try this for a couple of months now. I got it in Ocean, and I know other people got it in LoveDew or Sensitive. My blogger friend Jana from Small Bits of Loveliness seems to like it, so I think that's good for me too! It will be interesting to compare this to my DIY I've been using for years. And it came just in time, as Lavera deodorant I am currently using is not really working out for me. The ingredients seem very good, and I hope this might be just the product for me?

Ingredients: (sensitive)
(all the others have the same ingredients plus scents coming from essential oils)
Cocos Nucifera (Coconut) Oil*, Magnesium Oxide, Camellia Oleifera (Camellia Green Tea) Oil, Maranta Arundinacea (Arrowroot) Powder*, Euphorbia Cerifera (Candellila) Wax, Theobroma Cacao (Cocoa) Seed Butter*, Kaolin Clay, Himalayan Pink Salt, Aloe Barbadensis Cocos Nucifera (Aloe Vera) Butter, Tocopherol (Vitamin E). *Certified Organic

Fom London Hydra Bright Night Complex Treatment

A deluxe sample of this is my first introduction to the brand - they are on my radar and wishlist, I just never seem to get round to them, either something else always comes up, or I don't want to have too many open products at a time. So thank you Love Lula for taking this matter into your hands and sending this my way, lol. This is generous 10ml sample of the product that costs £79 for a full size (50ml), so I definitely appreciate the opportunity to try it! Will be interesting to see how this performs. It promises to remedy dark spots on face, as well as dull & dehydrated skin, uneven skin texture & have

skin brightening effect. Why, yes please! If you happen to have experience with the product, please do let me know?

Ingredients:
AQUA (WATER). BETA-GLUCAN AND ALGIN. ROSA CANINA (ROSEHIP) OIL. GLYCERIN. LACTIC ACID. PANTHENOL. TOCOPHEROL. CARICA PAPAYA FRUIT EXTRACT. VACCINIUM MYRTILLUS (BILBERRY) FRUIT EXTRACT (AND) SACCHARUM OFFICINARUM (SUGAR CANE) EXTRACT (AND) ACER SACCHARUM (SUGAR MAPLE) EXTRACT (AND ) CITRUS AURANTIUM DULCIS (ORANGE) FRUIT. FISCUS CARICA (FIG) EXTRACT. HYDROLYZED SILK PROTEIN. GLYCYRRHIZA GLABRA (LICORICE) EXTRACT. SODIUM HYALURONATE. SALIX NIGRA (WILLOW) BARK EXTRACT. CAMELLIA SINENSIS LEAF (GREEN TEA) EXTRACT. GINKGO BILOBA LEAF EXTRACT. PANAX GINSENG ROOT EXTRACT. RHODIOLA ROSEA ROOT EXTRACT. PHENOXYETHANOL AND CAPRYLYL GLYCOL. *PELARGONIUM GRAVEOLENS (GERANIUM) FLOWER OIL. LINALOOL. CITRAL. GERANIOL. LIMONENE.CITRONELLOL. *(NATURALLY OCCURRING IN ESSENTIAL OILS).

Laidbare Guess My Age Anti-aging Treatment Cream

Another full size product, and although I am happy about receiving this, although I must admit it will be put aside until I will finish Bella Aura products I currently use and adore, see my review I posted recently). As with Fom, the ingredients seem great (maybe apart from phenoxyethanol) and I really hope my sensitive skin will like it. It has coconut oil in the ingredients as well, and my skin can either take it or really rebel against it, so we will see how that goes. We have had Working 9 to 5 cream in some recent beauty box, and I currently use it as a hand cream.

Ingredients:
AQUA (WATER) ALOE BARBADENSIS (ALOE VERA) LEAF JUICE GLYCERIN (COCONUT) CAPRYLIC/CAPRIC TRIGLYCERIDE (COCONUT) GLYCERYL STEARATE (PALM KERNAL) ISOPROPYL MYRISTATE (PALM OIL) CETEARYL ALCOHOL (PALM KERNAL OIL) CETEARYL GLUCOSIDE (SUGAR) MANNITOL (BOTANICAL) CYCLODEXTRIN (YEAST) DISODIUM SUCCINATE (SYNTHETIC) DEHYDROACETIC ACID, BENZYL ALCOHOL (NATURALLY DERIVED PRESERVATIVE) PASSIFLORA INCARNATA (PASSION) FLOWER OIL SQUALANE (OLIVE DERIVED) XANTHAN GUM (NATURALLY DERIVED THICKENER) CITRUS LIMONUM (LEMON) PEEL OIL CITRUS AURANTIFOLIA (LIME) PEEL OIL TOCOPHEROL (NATURAL VITAMINE E) LAMINARIA JAPONICA (JAPANESE SEAWEED) EXTRACT POTASSIUM SORBATE (NATURALLY DERIVED PRESERVATIVE) SODIUM BENZOATE (NATURALLY DERIVED PRESERVATIVE) CITRAL (ESSENTIAL OILS) LIMONENE (ESSENTIAL OILS).

Sukin Purifying Shampoo and  Nourishing Conditioner

Sukin is a brand I am very familiar with, and the one that (surprise surprise) is available locally, but unfortunately I haven't had much luck with their face products, and I have tried about six of them over the years. I have had a thought about trying their shampoo one day, so it's like Love Lula were reading my mind. Excited to see if these will work for me, as I am currently testing a few different shampoos, and not everything is working out well as I'd hoped to. I am so hoping these could replace my beloved Rahua Voluminous Shampoo - I would love to find a budget version of Rahua, basically. (review here if you are interested) Both of these shampoos & conditioners are total bargains, only 7.95£ for 250ml or 9.95£ for 500ml, so I am keeping my fingers crossed here! (in the box we got 50ml of each, so I am guessing that's a deluxe sample size?

Purifying Shampoo ingredients:
Aqua, Aloe Barbadensis Leaf Juice, Cocoamidopropyl Betaine, Decyl Glucoside, PEG-150 Pentaerythrityl Tetrastearate, Equisetum Arvense Extract (Horsetail), Arctium Lappa Extract (Burdock), Urtica Dioica Extract (Nettle), Phenoxyethanol, Benzyl Alcohol, Citrus Tangerina (Tangerine) Peel Oil, Citrus Nobilis (Mandarin Orange) Peel Oil, Lavandula Angustifolia (Lavender) Oil, Vanilla Planifolia Extract, Citric Acid, Linalool,* Limonene.*

Nourishing Conditioner ingredients:
Aqua, Aloe Barbadensis Leaf Juice, Cetyl Alcohol, Cetrimonium chloride, Sesamum Indicum (Sesame) Seed Oil, Glycerin, Hydrolysed Wheat Protein, Triticum Vulgare (Wheat) Germ Oil, Persea Gratissima (Avocado) Oil, Simmondsia Chinensis (Jojoba) Seed Oil, Rosa Canina Fruit Oil (Rose Hip), Tocopherol (Vitamin E), Urtica Dioica Extract (Nettle), Arctium Lappa Extract (Burdock), Equisetum Arvense Extract (Horsetail), Phenoxyethanol, Benzyl Alcohol, Citrus Tangerina (Tangerine) Peel Oil, Citrus Nobilis (Mandarin Orange) Peel Oil Lavandula Angustifolia (Lavender) Oil, Vanilla Planifolia Extract, Citrus Paradisi Extract (Grapefruit Seed), Linalool,* Limonene.*

Balm Balm Frankincense Light Facial Oil

As an outside of UK customer, this is what you get instead of their newly released Glossworks nail polish shade (sob). As excited as I am about the chance to test it, I have to be honest I will probably use it up in other ways (after trying on my face first, of course) - the thing is most of the facial oils containing frankincense essential oil ended up too strong for my uber sensitive skin, and after learning dermatitis hates oils, I don't use much of them anyway. On the face, that's it. Hair and the body, that's a different story - I can't get enough of them! After working so hard to finish off my facial oils stash I somehow accumulated a collection again, so will have to do Project Pan of some sort. Even though I am a blogger, I don't like to have too many open products at any given time.

So, all in all, I think this is a great box, and a great way to switch your products to clean products without spending a fortune if you are only starting out your green beauty journey. Even if you are advanced in it, it is always fun to discover something new, isn't it? The value of this box is £48 and even though it is not as much as some of the recent boxes we had, I still think it's terrific value, as I will be able to use every single product in the box! I know I still love getting new products, nearly ten years in into my green beauty journey I still get excited getting boxes in the mail. What about you?

Natural Beauty Series - Meet Ava from Earthwise Beauty

Hi Lovelies,

Welcome back! And if you are new here, welcome 💕💕💕

You have no idea how happy I am to present this blog post to you guys! Like bursting at the seams excited! You know why? Because Ava from Earthwise Beauty is featured here as Natural Beauty today 💕 It was fascinating to pick brains of this fabulous green beauty heavyweight - I did a happy little dance when her interview answers came back, and now I am equally happy dancing sharing it all with you, my lovely readers. It is true you learn something new everyday - I learned a new way to nourish my scalp today, all thanks to Ava!

💕 I know exactly who You are, and I am a big fan, but would You please introduce Yourself to those who might don't know You?

My name is Ava Zhan, and I am the founder of Earthwise Beauty, an organic skin care line with a focus on local herbs grown or harvested by us, on unprocessed, often unusual plant oils, and on highly effective formulas! More recently, I couldn't help myself and also launched a second company, Pacific Northwest Essences (mind you, with the help of a whole super hard working and dedicated team). The essence company will soon carry over 100 flower and gem essences for internal use as herbal supplements, and also some eagerly awaited aura mists.

💕 How has going natural and non toxic in your beauty regimen changed your overall health and beauty?

Well, that happened over 15 years ago. Since my teenage years, I have been very interested in nutritional healing and herbal healing (Western and Traditional Chinese Medicine), which means the changes happened from outside and from inside simultaneously and gradually. But as far as the skin care regimen, not only do I take much more pleasure in using pure natural products, my skin generally looks very well fed. At 42, I don't really have wrinkles or loss of elasticity, and the minor tendency I have toward premenstrual breakouts is quite easy to keep in check. My approach with our products is to offer nourishing with oils and plants that are rich in vitamins, omegas, and many other phytonutrients. I believe in nurturing and boosting, and I am not a big proponent of scrubbing, several cleanses, stripping, or peeling. Intense exfoliating treatments offer quick visible results, but somehow in the long run, most heavy users of such products end up looking older, not younger. It is as if the skin cells become more passive or stripped off some crucial resiliency components and they do not bounce back on their own. What I have also found is that deeper peels may increase the tendency toward hyperpigmentation even though they are often supposed to diminish it.
Ava Zhan, the founder of Earthwise Beauty,

💕 Three things that make You happy?

Freedom, ponderosa pines, and my children.

💕 What is the best advice You've been given?

One good piece of advice that comes to mind is from the time I was just beginning to drive on highways and on busy big city streets. I was explaining to my friends that I feel a lot of pressure from the drivers behind me to get moving when I am preparing for a left turn on a very busy intersection. I wait and wait for a good while, but sometimes it takes quite long for the gap between oncoming cars to be wide enough. And the friends I was talking with made me realize that the right time to turn is when I am comfortable. It is not about pleasing them, it is about my and my passengers' safety. It was eye opening to realize how much we are thought to please others first.

💕 What people inspire You?

I am particularly inspired by people who have grace and kindness, who strive, create, achieve, yet they also work hard to be nonviolent, to maintain a pure and good heart.

💕 What are Your three (or five) can't-live-without-it green beauty products?

Among our products, I can't live without Nap in the Meadow Serum, Ferns and Moss Serum, and Farizad's Veil sun protective powder.

Earthwise Beauty Products

💕 Your best DIY recipe? Other than your fabulous products? It might be a simple scrub or cleaning solution, something simple like that?

My scalp is extremely sensitive to chemicals, including natural preservatives and emulsifiers that are used in large percentages by most, it seems, companies, including organic ones. For this reason, I often doctor up the cleanest, purest hair products I can find. I often make blends of a serving of natural shampoo with a few drops of lemon thyme essential oil and a dropperfull of burdock tincture. I leave on this enriched shampoo for as long as possible, and it soothes and nourishes my scalp.
*Noted - Renata. Thanks so much for the tip :)

💕 What do You like and dislike about yourself?

I like to laugh and joke in the company of people who get my jokes. Another thing that I like about myself is that I get things done. I will keep most of the dislikes secret, but to give you a few: I am impatient, don't like to wait, and I am late to places and appointments way more often than I would like.

💕 Your proudest achievement?

I don't know whether this is my personal achievement, but I am very proud of how my boys are turning out.

💕 What are You currently reading?

I am reading on several topics at once: Native American mythology, a novel set in India, and a series of books about the meanings of our dreams, especially with animal or mythical symbols, and I always look things up in my reference books on herbal healing.

💕 What food do You like to cook/eat?

I like healthy and tasty food, primarily vegetarian. When I lived in New York City, I was working as a cookbook editor for several years and I was surrounded by people whether editors or chefs who loved to eat, cook, bake, and to create new recipes, and most if not all of them ate very healthy foods. It was great fun to go to restaurants where competitive and creative chefs always worked on surprising their choosy New York clientele. We had access to food that was fresh, organic, inspired by cuisines around the world, and very tasty.
💕 What is your favourite product from the ones You created?

It is a difficult question. I always want to improve and I am almost never fully satisfied with my formulas. On most days I am too perfectionistic. But let me choose Ferns and Moss Face Serum. It feels more complete than most facial oils, I love the amber color, the oakmoss scent, and the thick yet nonoily texture. And it is so versatile: Ferns and Moss works on bare washed skin, layered over other products such as our Nap in the Meadow, mixed with Farizad's Veil powder for the daytime. And it is one of those oils that I never ever worry may cause me congestion (with many products, I need to be careful and only apply richer products on the dry outer sides of my face, and light ones such as Ambrosia del Cerrado Moisturizer on my T-zone). During a time with very dry skin last winter, I even used a second layer of Ferns and Moss for the day over my foundation and loved the effect. My skin always asks for more Ferns and Moss.

💕 Your guilty pleasure?
A chocolate muffin here and there.

💕 Your top tips for being healthy and happy?

First of all, lots of time in nature. Fresh air, sun, a breeze, and the sight of trees or an ocean are all my recipes for calm and happiness. Then very healthy foods, with a wide range of fresh fruits and cooked vegetables at every meal (yes, three times a day, not once). Then, nurture the quality relationships in your life, and if you have any that consistently make you unhappy, move on. There are new friends to meet at any time in one's life.

💕 What scents excite You?

I love scents that are deep, evocative, earthy, resinous, surprising, and highest grade florals. As is evident for everyone who has tried our products, I can't bring myself to just add a little lavender and call a product scented and ready. If I go for lavender, I search for that one that smells like wild lavender, it is subtle and green, not just floral.

💕 What is Your mantra in life?

I don't have a mantra, but I am particularly sensitive on the topic of personal freedom. I try to create a life for myself and for my family members where we have freedom in many areas of our life even though we need to adjust to others' needs here and there, or say the school schedule.

💕 Favorite affirmation if You have one?

I don't have an affirmation, but not too long ago, I was writing text for a postcard that features the yellow iris flower essence that we carry on our pnwessences web site. I normally write long essence descriptions, but there is very little space on the card, and I wanted something more like an affirmation, but of course it had to also be faithful to how this particular essence works. What I wrote was "My cup is full." It has been many months and this sentence comes back to me often. Many of us grew up with a feeling of lack, whether from poverty or insufficiency, and we carry that feeling into adulthood even though it may no longer be true, or is not true much of the time. We need to retrain our brain to see with new eyes that we have changed, that our situation has changed.

💕 3 resources every girl needs..

Her own money, easy access to nature, and people in her life who respect and appreciate her.

💕 Once an week for my health...

Chinese acupuncture.

💕 What do You do to de-stress?

I love weekends without any plans, classes, a schedule, and then I like to spend as much time as possible wandering our local meadows and forests.

💕 Last thing you do at night?

I read at least a few pages of a book. I have a huge stack of books next to my bed that I choose from, mostly my herbal reference books.
I hope you enjoyed this interview as much as I did?

Then please make my day and share this or any of my blog posts on social media - it helps to get the green beauty word out and for that I Thank You!

Natural Beauty Series - Meet Angie from Whipped Green Girl

Hi Lovelies,

Welcome back! And welcome, if you are new here 💕💕💕

Angie from Whipped Green Girl
(Before we start I have to warn you that Google uses cookies (blogger platform I use belongs to Google) and I am obliged to let you know.)

Speaking of Sunshines (check my last post), here is one more for you - step forward Angie from Whipped Green Girl. This gorgeous natural mama and I connected via Twitter, as she does not do IG, but nonetheless, like minded people find ways to cross paths I find. When I first checked her blog, I was in awe of abundance of fabulous DIY recipes Angie blogs about - and I was scribbling most of them down, not going to lie! A keen DIYer myself, but I will only whip up things that are super easy to do, and I must have all of the ingredients in my kitchen already. (my DIY round up post will be linked at the very end of this post, but it pales in comparison to Angie's, I will be honest here. Every time I visit her blog, I think to myself "I must step up my DIY game" 😄). You are going to love her blog, I promise you! She recently has started making Youtube videos as well, so please be sure to go and subscribe as well - I know I did. Supporting my fellow green beauty sisters is important to me. Angie is such a sweetheart and is smart and funny at the same time too - you will instantly want to be her best friend, I am telling you! And want to know all her secrets too, because her skin is amazing :) So let's sit back and enjoy the interview with this Canadian green beauty! She found her life changed since she switched to the green side more than 15 years ago, so let's see what she has to say?

💕 Please introduce yourself?

I’m WhippedGreenGirl – AKA Angie, a girl who loves granola and mixing her own lotions and potions.

💕  How has going natural and non-toxic in your beauty regime changed your overall health and beauty?

Where do I start, my health kick started over 15yrs ago. I was riddled with toxins from all the crap in my skin care… My hormones were totally out of whack- often causing me to be ill, in the hospital. After trying so many things. It wasn’t until, I cut-out all the synthetic fragrances in my skin care and life, that I was able to claim my health back. Parabens were destroying me, I sincerely believe. I even went on to take an aromatherapy course. Knowing essential oils, is solely the way I will “scent” my life… My green journey brought me to blogging, vlogging, now even doing interviews – no way lol 😉

💕 Three things that make you happy?

I know it’s cheesy but truly my man and my little babes Ariel, they’re sincerely my happy place
Fresh, warm air – nothing feels better
Shopping- yup! Throw in a shoe store and I’m in heaven lol

💕 What’s the best advice you've been given?

“Think before you talk…” I still work on this one on a daily basis. I can still see my mother, waving her finger in my face “Angie, THINK BEFORE YOU TALK”… I kind of cut like a knife sometimes LOL

💕 What people inspire You?

Seeing goodness in others. Seeing others selflessly put themselves above others. There’s nothing better in life, than simple acts of kindness!

💕 What are your three (or five) can't-live-without-it green beauty products?

NEED my Leven Rose, rose water! Can’t live without it!
My body, toes to neck - needs my DIY Whipped Lotion every day!
Pumpkin Seed Oil Face Serum, or a serum of some kind.

💕 Your best DIY recipe?

Wow, where do I start! I’ve been making my own skincare for over 15yrs now! Right now I’m on a huge honey kick (manuka for acne + thyme for blemishes + buckwheat for dry skin)!
I love throwing honey and coconut oil, into a bowl. Whipping it to a fluffy texture with a hand mixer… Voila, an instant DIY, healthy face cleanser!
For any DIY skincare enthusiast out there, here’s all my latest skin recipes here.

(I highly recommend you check them out - and I think you will not want to leave until you have noted down all of the recipes! Renata)

Whipped Green Girl Body Lotion

💕 Your proudest achievement?

I’m just a proud person in general. What I got in life, I got on my own – blood, sweat and tears. I still remember when I drove my dream car (yea, “used car” - but still dream car) off the lot a few years ago. Me and my little Subaru Impreza, I cried I was so giddy!
There’s nothing quite like working for everything you have. It’s so rewarding.

💕 What are you currently reading?

Currently re-reading for the 100th time in my life… “How to Win Friends & Influence People” by Dale Carnegie. It’s a book I go back to on a consistent basis…
Also, just got Bif Naked’s Memoir – “I, Bificus”. She’s my favorite female artists. Such an inspiration to so many. She’s truly amazing.

(*noted! - Renata)

💕  If you were to formulate a natural skincare or beauty product, what it would be?

I’ve mastered making face lotions and face serums. Body butters is another thing I’m great at. So much so, my friends get me to make it for them, at cost… I consider myself so lucky to be able to whip-up, any high-end, organic lotion or potion in an instant, all by myself, in my own kitchen. You can do it too! Plus save loads of money in the process! But warning, DIY skincare is super fun and very addictive 😊

💕 What scents excite You?

Loving May Chang essential oil right now! When used in a diffuser, the sweet citrus smell is beyond yummy! Also Saje Wellness has a blend called “TANTRA” – wow sold! Love it, put it in my DIY body lotion last week - amazing!

💕 Crazy health idea that actually works?

I use honey as my face wash ONLY – solely. I mean, the stuff never rots! It has so much goodness in it. It’s cheap, easy to find, and works every time!
Another weird thing I do. To keep my complexion clear… I drink bentonite clay in water (on an empty stomach) a few times a week, in the morning. Does wonders on my skin!

💕 What do you do to de-stress?

Write, blog, vlog… I never stop. If I stop, I sit, think too much & stress ahaha – seriously. Keeping my mind busy means, I’m also happy!

💕 Last thing you do at night?

Usually, tell my chihuahua - who’s now taken over my entire half of the bed, to move it or lose it LOL! Then I snuggle my little fur-buddy, his bad breath and wet kisses are always the last thing I get to enjoy before I crash…

💕 Tell us a secret!

My real name isn’t Angie. But, my dad loved the Rolling Stones. So it stuck lol

💕 A few words to Green Life In Dublin readers?

Show Renata some love- she’s amazing and deserves several raised glasses 😊!!! Thanks for this opportunity. Long time fan of your blog and reviews. Proud to be amongst your pages xo

Aww, thanks Angie! That warms my heart so much xo Very happy to feature you too!
